New Tidings!

I am thrilled to finally be putting into action a blog segment that I have been working on in my head for a couple of months now. I hope that you find it as enjoyable as it seems in my brain. And frankly, with Husband starting his ridiculous marathon of Christmas music, I feel like I owe it to our audience to counteract his demented holiday torture with some wicked good sounds. So I bring you:

In the days leading up to a trip, whether it’s a month long trek to eastern Europe or a weekend jaunt to Kanab, I always calculate my 16 gb of ipod space, and either peruse all my acquired music for something I haven’t given a full listen, or I search itunes for new music. Sometimes it’s an album I’m after, sometimes a single song. But that song will get a lot of playtime and become iconic to a place and time, and that way whenever I hear it, I can instantly close my eyes and be back in that place again. To those of you who like to travel or adventure, I highly recommend the pleasure of this instant psychological high.

But for my humbly small number of readers, I thought you might find some of this music interesting in its own right, regardless of the traveling aspect. SO, every few days, or a week, or whenever I feel like it, I will feature one of my “iconic traveling” songs for your entertainment.

I'll put my first segment up in the next hour, and I'm going to try and do this by embedding from playlist.com, so let me know if this format is or isn't working for you guys.

I hope you enjoy!

Whenever I travel I listen to Wonderful Christmastime by Paul McCartney. Ooooh ooooh, Burl Ives just came on!

I really love this idea!! Only by accident have I managed to do this in the past and not very well at all. The thought has never even occurred to me to plan ahead! This is brilliant!

When ever I listen to Mae or Vertical Horizon I think about every time I was on plane.

I seriously love this idea.

I love this! I find that people can get real insights into someone's soul by listening to the music they listen to. And I love that you're giving all of us readers the opportunity to gain a small insight to your wonderful soul.

Tidings of Comfort, Victory, and GIVEAWAYS!!!!!

1.  My Cranberry pie finally won!  After a tragic finish at an ugly sweater party, and being overshadowed by the chocolate pecan pie at Thanksgiving, my Nantucket Cranberry Pie (which I took to the next level with a chocolate cream cheese icing)  got first place at the office holiday party Top Chef competition. I am happy. 2.  I also coincidentally won a caption contest on my favorite horse blog, and for my witty mockery was awarded a gift certificate for horse tack!  As I currently don't have a horse of my own, I'm giving it to Camp K.  I hope my mother and her 3 horses, 2 mules and 2 donkeys forgive me.  But I'm still claiming victory on that one, and relishing in being mentioned on my favorite blog in the same post as my international heroes. 3. GIVEAWAY!!!!  I was inspired by a number of blogs giving away x-boxes, TVs, designer handbags, and gift cards to the moon, but I decided that you don't actually need to be rich to share the lo...

A Balanced Life

Picking up the Copperpot on paint day at school (note the purple hair!) After coming back to work part time a month after I had the Copperpot, I was exhausted, shell shocked, and hyper aware of how tiny my baby still was. I couldn't fathom leaving her in anyone's arms but her grandmothers, and I was extremely lucky that those women took on that task so willingly in those early months to allow me to go back to work and try and figure things out.  When the maternity leave ran out and my baby was still tiny, despite the huge decision ahead of me, it wasn't even a decision. I couldn't send my newborn to a giant daycare. Or a babysitter. That's not to say that I think women who do are less good mothers - in fact, I think they're 100 times stronger and braver than I will ever be.  So I decided to quit my office job and pursue my side project of freelance writing as full time as time would allow while still being home with the critter. In just a few mont...
