The Utah Trotter

Today I am revealing an underground project that I have been researching, writing, designing and shooting for months.  I have been making contacts across the Wasatch Front, taking pictures like a mad man, and now I am finally unveiling my new project that probably only a fraction of you will find interesting, haha! Welcome to The Utah Trotter !  This will be my blog geared towards my horse acquaintances and complete strangers alike, in an attempt to provide content for what I consider an untapped place of communication for Utah horse lovers.  There used to be a newspaper in Utah that circulated some horse news- horse shows, trainers and the sweetest little snippets of Cowboy Poetry- and the slow demise of printed media quickly did away with that Utah Horseman's staple.  I'm hoping to revive a common place for those brave horse enthusiasts who carry on despite dwindling arenas, disappearing trails, and longer drives to your faithful steed. Is it ambitious? Yes. Is it terrify

Home.

Portland at Sunrise After a whirling dervish of a 5 day driving/walking/eating/music-ing trek to Portland, it is very good to be home.  And I am incredibly relieved that home is still home, and not the home we bid on.  Alas, someone else had more money than we did when it came to the 1890's gem in historic draper, and while Dan and I would love to own a home like that someday, I think both of us were a little relieved that someday isn't today.  There are many more homeless adventures yet to be had. I had a wonderful time with our new camera in Portland, and I promise that a photojournal shall follow shortly. I had some nice breakthroughs with the camera, and of course lots of frustrations. The camera is going to be smarter than me for a very long time, and I have to make peace with that as I continue to build my skills. More than anything, I loved traveling with Dan again, who is my ideal traveling companion. It's so convenient tha

HGTV makes it look like putting in an offer is a five minute ordeal, and nothing can go wrong. I have officially been sitting here longer than an episode of House Hunters International, and still haven't heard from Dan, who is at this very moment signing away our lives to attempt to buy an 1890's update brick home on half an acre in Draper.  It's our little first home dream of all dreams, so once this offer is in, all we can do is wait to see how much of our future we just entrusted to banks, jobs, economies and building inspectors. PS- is anyone looking for a 2 BR in Sugarhouse with a vintage 1956 General Electric Kitchen Center?

Adobe Relationshop 10.0

It was not unusual for me to stay until 5 or 6 o'clock at night after an afternoon deadline to flirt with format the Lehi High School Newspaper.  Before most of those computers were equipped with internet and gchat and other distracting features, I could sit and just mess with Quark Xpress to my heart's content.  I learned photo tricks and layers and rulers and adjustments and I actually wrote the high school's 20 page manual and guidelines for Quark as if I were writing sonnets of my endless 17 year old love.  The final copy wasn't sealed with a kiss and sprayed with a bit of my favorite perfume, but it should have been. I hear they've since moved on to Adobe Indesign, and it took me a couple pints of Haagen Dazs and a month of chick flicks in bed to get over it. I suppose I did get over it- like forgotten 6th period love notes scratched on college rule, I have not opened the shortcut to my personal copy of Quark in years. I love formatting, but

Please, Don't Invite Us Out to Dinner

You know I'm not much of the life updating type via le blog, but on occasion I like having the opportunity to share some of the crazy intentions I have for myself on a, let's say, semesterly basis.  Today, I really truly am excited about the future.  One of the big things is that we got a new, real, entry level but wonderful SLR camera. I'm thrilled that I will finally be able to take a picture of a horse EXACTLY at the moment that I mean to (and then some at 4.1 frames per second), and have more zoom than a couple of feet. I'm stoked that I will be able to travel and be truly proud of the photos that I take. For Dan, it has video, so we will finally be able to get quality footage from his band shows and get quality photos in the low level lighting of music venues.  And, as Dan says, someday (longfromnow) when have kids (longlonglongfromnow) we will be able to preserve those memories in quality (in10yearsfromthismomentfromnow). In our current lives, it's just a wa
